Season: Warm, frost-free growing conditions.
Sowing: Direct-sow into a sunny, fertile bed with good drainage; thin seedlings and provide a strong trellis.
Soil and feeding: Use a well-drained growing medium with mature compost. Feed according to crop needs, soil fertility and the fertiliser label, rather than a fixed schedule for every vegetable.
Care and Harvest Guide
Maintain moisture while vines grow and fruit. Support hanging fruit if necessary and monitor fruit fly damage.
Pick young, tender gourds for cooking before the rind hardens. Discard abnormally bitter gourds.
Follow packet depth and spacing for the actual seed line. Keep the seedbed moist, not saturated, and protect young seedlings from heavy rain.
